Joaquim Mir i Trinxet

Barcelona, 1873 – 1940)
Prats de Santa Coloma (Meadows of Santa Coloma)Oil on canvas 65 x 81 cm

The first of his three trips to Andorra was in 1932, always by car and accompanied by his wife, son, the driver and an assistant. As Andorra could only be accessed by the road from the south, Mir stayed around Santa Coloma and the capital, Andorra la Vella.

This oil painting is the best example to understand the personality of Joaquim Mir: three areas, almost parallel - meadow, mountain and sky – of contrasting colors that with such violent contrast create the depth of the piece.
