Romà Ribera

Barcelona, 1849 – 1935
El dineret de la Santa Creu (A Little Coin for the Holy Cross)Oil on canvas 110,5 x 115 cm

With a realism that is hardly academic, Ribera struggled between painting for the demands of his commercial dealer in Paris, Goupil, who requested elegant scenes of dance and theater outings or painting everyday street scenes.

Magnificent storyteller, skillful and cultivated, with a refined ability for historical clothing, he depicted the bourgeois way of life of the French Third Republic and of the Catalan Restoration.
