Joan Cardona

Barcelona, 1877 – 1957
Dona amb nen, 1920 Woman with child, 1920Oil on canvas 100 x 81 cm

Cardona is known for a folkloric style, colorful and exuberant - labeled the Castilian school - with gypsies, "majas" and women in general as the predominant figure in his paintings. Unlike Nonell, the vision of gypsies that Cardona painted is happy and far from the drama and misery depicted by Nonell.
