Pulvis, cineris, nihilOil on canvas 97 x 137 cm

In 1894, Rusiñol spent some weeks in Tarragona with his friend and literary critic Josep Yxart, who was gravely ill. The painting includes a dedication to J. Ruiz i Porta, archivist, President of the Athenaeum of Tarragona and a great friend of Rusiñol. The death of Yxart inspired the cemeteries series of the catalan artist.
