Cases a la platja (Houses on the beach)Oil on canvas 48 x 73 cm

Joan Roig Soler must be recognized as the driving force behind the Luminist School of Sitges, almost parallel to the Olot School, though he was not inspired by French painting, as was the Olot School, but instead in the Roman and Neapolitan Luminists.
The two key painters of that movement - Joan Roig Soler and Arcadi Mas i Fontdevila, Barcelonian by origin, found in Sitges the ideal weather conditions for direct contact with nature.
