The book contains the history of the prestigious Catalan master clockmakers (the workshops of Arenys de Munt, Barcelona, Centelles, Gironella, Igualada, Manresa, Mataro, Moiá, Olot, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, Terrassa and Vic) and also illustrates the importance of the clocks of Catalan bell towers, that appear just as society leaves behind the canonical hours, and schedules are governed by civil time.

The Catalan Clock lets us explore the history of clock making in Catalonia, from Ripoll’s clepsydra of the eleventh century, to scientific clocks of Albert Billeter, Swiss clockmaker based in the town of Gràcia in the nineteenth century, a fascinating heritage and largely unpublished.
